C.I.N.E. provides cryogenic deburring and cryogenic deflashing for machined and molded medical devices.
We also provide cryogenic treatment for wear resistance, lifetime and micro-structure improvements.
Remove Burrs and Flash with Dry Ice
The Cryogenic Institute provides removal of machine burrs and mold flash as a service to our customers. We utilize a brand-new process named dry ice micro deburring and deflashing to complete this process. The process was introduced this year, 2010, to compliment our cryogenic deburring and cryogenic deflashing services.
Our Dry Ice Micro Deburring and Deflashing Service removes burrs and flash in hard to reach areas. The dry ice micro process removes burrs and flash on the exterior and interior of parts. We are able to clean cross-holes and slots within your parts. The process is effective in removing minor burrs and flash from parts. Dry Ice Micro Deburring is a great solution for parts that have inconsistent burrs. Since, the parts are deburred separately, attention will be given to the areas of concern. If a work holder is required, we are an expert in developing low-cost fixtures to support the deburring and deflashing of your parts.
Dry Ice Micro Deburring and Deflashing works on many materials. Dry ice micro deburring and deflashing is available for most machined and molded parts, especially on engineered materials and composites. We have many cases of successful burr and flash removal on parts machined from plastics, polymers, nylons, delrin, Teflon, polypropylene, polycarbonate, ABS, PET, HDPE, PEEK, DAP, Tefzel, PPS, Viton, Torlon, CTFE, Liquid Crystal Polymer, PH Stainless Steels, Aluminum and Beryllium Copper.
Dry Ice Micro Deburring and Deflashing offers a high quality alternative. The cost to deburr and deflash parts as a general rule of thumb is between 10% and 20% of the value of the part, although each part must be considered on its individual characteristics. We always beat labor-intensive manual or hand deburring of parts by a handsome margin. This is true not only in terms of cost per part processed, but also in quality!
Our Micro Deburring and Deflashing process utilizes dry ice. Solid blocks of dry ice (CO2) or dry ice pellets are used as a non-abrasive media. The blasting system is connected to a compressed air source which will allow us to achieve blasting at rates as high as 150 PSI. Ultimately, shaved dry ice is blasted at supersonic speeds at the surface to be deburred or deflashed. Once the dry ice impacts the surface, it subliminates, causing it to expand 800 times its original size. This allows the burrs and flash to be removed from the parts to be cleaned
