Dranetz-BMI

Dranetz-BMI traces its history back to 1962, with the founding of Dranetz Engineering Laboratories, which would become the recognized pioneer of the power quality monitoring industry. In 1996, Dranetz was merged with BMI which developed in response to the growing market for intelligent monitoring systems to capture and analyze power quality phenomena that would disrupt industrial processes and computer systems. In January 2007, Dranetz-BMI was acquired by Gossen Metrawatt of Germany as a vehicle with which to address the global demand for power quality instrumentation.

Power quality and reliability problems cost businesses billions of dollars each year in lost revenue, process improvements, and scrapped product. For more than 40 years, Dranetz-BMI has worked with companies, utilities, and government agencies to understand the cause of these disturbances, resolve problems, and provide proactive methods for preventing future problems. We also have a commitment to industry-wide education—sharing our knowledge through our leadership within the IEEE and other industry organizations, delivering power quality seminars, authoring technical articles, participating in professional conferences, and writing books such as The Dranetz-BMI Handbook for Power Quality Analysis.

Dranetz-BMI’s PowerXplorer™ family of products again set the new industry standard by combining the most technologically advanced feature set in the market with a color touch screen, “super smart” automatic instrument setups, and a unique annunciator “report card” that instantly characterizes power quality events. Moreover, users can drill down for more information or download data to a memory card for PC analysis using the Company’s DranView software. Each instrument also meets key domestic and international standards, including IEEE 1159, EN50160, and the new IEC 61000-4-30 Class A standards. These products integrate the most advanced feature set available in a power monitoring instrument, and have the ability to capture high frequency transients generated by fast switching electronics, medical diagnostic equipment, lightning and load shifting, with an easy-to-navigate, color, graphical user interface, with unique proprietary AnswerModules to pinpoint source and cause of disturbances.
